This unexpected journey has taught me critical lessons about self-advocacy and how important it is that we trust our intuition and have the courage to speak up for ourselves.
It’s soooooo important to advocate for ourselves and tend to our health the way we tend to other aspects of our lives. I was a little taken aback last week when my doctor praised me for coming for my yearly physical exam. “You’re doing the right thing by having regular check ups”, he said. “Most people wait until there’s a problem”. And this in Australia, where we have Medicare for All. The human body is robust and delicate at the same time. We ignore our intuition about our physical health at our own peril. If I’m going to have the privilege of getting old, I want to do it with as much quality of life as possible. And that means paying attention to my body and giving it the care it deserves.
This is such a great point, Lori. When I first moved to the U.S. and Leon mentioned annual physicals, I thought it was a strange thing as in the U.K. you’d only go and get bloodwork etc if you started to have symptoms of something. But now I’ve become used to it and it seems very strange not to get these yearly exams. Especially at this stage of life. I’m glad you also get yours done!
So glad you listened to your intuition. 💕💕💕
Me too. It could have been a very different outcome ❤️
Wayne Dyer used to say, “We have one body to live in and we should treat it like a temple”. ♥️🙏
Absolutely. I definitely try!
